BASE –USSVI-MEETING MINUTES
Wednesday, 20 July 2005
Meeting called to order at 1905
at the Marine Corps League Museum, Scranton, PA by Commander Jeff
Owens.. The Purpose of the Organization was read. The Base Bell was
tolled once for each of the 4 boats and 204 crew members lost during
the
month of July, and a moment of silence followed. A prayer was offered
by Chaplain Vaughan. Members present
recited the Pledge of Allegiance.
Roll call: Members present
were: John Saeli, Jeff Owens, Tom Shields, Rich Holmes,
Bill
Klose, Robert Vaughan, Gerald Zeman, Dennis Opiela, Frank McDevitt, Ben
Volpicello, Mike Smith, Ivan Meixell, Rich Holmes, Gene Rees, Oliver
Nordmark
Guests: None
It was confirmed that a quorum was present.
The Minutes: The Secretary was
absent. No minutes were available for past meeting.
Treasurer’s Report: Treasurer
reported a current bank balance of $2, 832.51
Motion made to accept, all in favor by voice vote.
John Saeli read from Submarine Operations of WWII.
Committees Reports:
Membership: John Saeli reported the current member count is 44.
New Holland Club members are Risner and Robinson.
Ways and Means: 500 pocket calendars placed on order.
Parades: Jeff Owens reminded that we are scheduled to participate in
the W-B vets parade on 13 NOv.
Ball Game-
John Saeli reviewed the arrangements for the Ball Game on 28
July. On field marchers to meet no later than 1815 by the gift
shop.
No other committees had reports.

Discussions not recorded.
New Business:
The SubVets license plate situation was discussed at some length.
Jeff Owens reported from a conversation with Michael White who is the
POC, that he intends to raise the rate for obtaining a plate by adding
on a service charge of $20 to future applications. This was
received negatively, and the final decision is that the base will wait
for further developments before taking any action.
Good of the Organization:
Bob Vaughan reported, but not recorded.
Next meeting will be held at
1900, 17 Aug 2005 at the Wilson Fisher
Post, American Legion, Pocono Pines, PA.
A closing prayer was offered by Chaplain Vaughan. The meeting was
adjourned at 2015.
